Star Trek And My Inner Geek

There is one simple reason why I smiled at the programmer who would later become my husband ten years ago.  A shared geek moment.  Yeah, I don’t know much about computers, code, or if loops.  Or other geek arenas like comic books, role playing games, or…well, I don’t even know what else qualifies as a geek trait.  Nevertheless, I’ve got some geek in me which binds my husband’s soul and mine together on a cellular level.  (Please, take a moment to gag at my cheesiness, I know I am.)

So what taints my average career-girl image with a hint of geek?

Star Trek.

The accents, the men in tight pants and glitter, the swaggering, campy humor.  CBS has all of the original Star Trek episodes online, and I just spent fifty minutes spewing soda out my nose at the antics of Tribbles and the tongue in cheek acting of Captain Kirk and his crew.

Geeks Are Sexy

Put the words geek and sex(y) together and I’m instantly hooked. I did marry myself a hunky geek after all. GeeksaresexyTM is a site devoted to ‘tech, science, news and social issues for geeks’. Today’s front page looks like a dose of my daily life-offices (and a basement) crowded with multiple computers and piles of paper.

They have a compilation of female geeks-brains and beauty, baby! But what I was really looking for were geeks of the male variety. We can all look, just no touching (their software packages or, ahah, other more tangible packages).
