I think the answer lies with one entity. KIDS!! A large portion of women who are married have children. A husband and a wife living in a house... no problem. Nice and clean and quiet. Add a couple of kids to the equation and watch the messes multiply exponentially! Juice spills, poop, food...the list is endless. And don't think the husband is going to be going around cleaning up after these little people. If you're lucky you might be able to get him to take a chore or two. My husband does the dishes for example. (Which in a family of four is a lot of dishes) But don't think they will always get done as soon as they are put in the sink. They will sit there for a couple of days and smell up the house. He will barely notice the stench with his male nose. Eventually you get so tired of the smell, you will just do them yourself. There you have the beginnings of 17 hours of housework. Then there is laundry, urine sprayed all over your bathroom, something sticky in the carpet, cracker crumbs all over the sofa, johnny need immunizations, sally needs to be registered for school, did that bill get paid this month? He won't notice those either. And if there is only two adults living is the house that only leaves one other person to do them. The wife.

@tboehm30 I have to admit, I'm slightly evil in that I learn the tech jargon just to shock and amaze the programmer (and to start philosophical arguments (think Java versus Ruby) when the programmers have had a few too many beers). However, I'm also with your wife in that I haven't "gotten" it all...like Facebook...where do people find all this time?!?!
