The programmer shoved the sample ballot under my nose.
“You need to research the constitutional and charter amendments and make your decisions.”
Needless to say, I paused in catching up on the latest gossip important world affairs and gave the programmer a considering look. You know the look. The who are you and what have you done with my husband look?
I didn’t get all squint-eyed because the programmer was doing something out of character. Okay, he might have been acting slightly odd because this conversation occurred during the Redskins game. Redskins game time is sacrosanct. Nothing but football is addressed during Redskins time. Despite the atypical timing of the programmer bringing up November 4th, the programmer and I are very serious about fulfilling our civic privilege. Yes, it’s a privilege to vote, people; everyone here and women here don’t get to vote for crapola. People have died so that I get to vote, and I’m not going to disrespect their sacrifice (no matter how much I abhor violence).
Anyway, my squinty look was because it’s usually me who is shoving things under the programmer’s nose (sign here, check this box, make me queen of your financial universe, bruhahha!).
So since I didn’t get to nag the programmer into complete submission and remind him to vote, I’m nagging you.
Select who and what you’re voting for. Obama or McCain (and in my case some judges, board of education positions, and amendments).
Now, regardless of what you usually do on Tuesdays: VOTE.
Don’t flush your rights down the toilet because you’re too lazy, too scared to make a decision, believe politics is bunk, politicians are liars, or that your candidate of choice is going to lose.
If you don’t vote, you LOSE.
VOTE. VOTE. VOTE.
(I know, all I do is nag, nag, nag.)
And for some after-voting fun, check out the Geeks of Doom favorite fictional Presidents. My personal love: President Lindberg from The 5th Element, only one of the best sci-fi movies ever.
So far I’ve only missed one election in my life. I think it was for school board or something. Oops.
voted.
and it’s over.
will we all rally behind the winner? who can say.
here’s hoping.
Voted! All done!
@geekhiker You’re doing better than me. I’ve missed primaries b/c I’m not affiliated with a party…I’ve got a thing about organized politics (and religion) and like to keep my options open. Or, as the programmer says, I’m a commitmentphobe.
@MizFit I’m bursting with hope! Please, please, America come together.
@M Awesome, Mark! Now here’s hoping our politicians of choice follow through with their promises.
Have a nice weekend!
